Treatment options
Emoblization
Embolization is a well-established interventional radiology technique that is used to treat trauma victims with significant bleeding, to decrease blood loss prior to surgery and to treat tumors. In treating cancer patients, interventional radiologists use embolization to cut off the blood supply to the tumor (embolization), deliver radiation to a tumor (radioembolization), or combine this technique with chemotherapy to deliver the cancer drug directly to the tumor (chemoembolization).
Chemoembolization
Chemoembolization is a method used to deliver chemotherapy directly to liver tumors – either tumors that originated in the liver (primary liver cancer) or tumors that spread (“metastasized”) to the liver from other sites (ie, colon or breast cancer). Continue reading…
Portal vein embolization (PVE)
Portal Vein Embolization is a relatively new pre-surgical procedure employed in the planning of major liver cancer surgery. Continue reading…
Radioembolization-radiation microspheres
An innovative treatment for liver cancer, radiation microspheres provide an effective vehicle for delivering radiation directly to the site of tumors while sparing healthy tissue. Continue reading…
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
Radiofrequency ablation offers a non-surgical localized method for shrinking and killing tumor cells with heat while sparing healthy tissue. Continue reading…
Tumor biopsy
Diagnostic testing provides vital information in confirming the presence of disease and then selecting appropriate treatment. Continue reading…
